About the game
Tap to cast and steer the hook as it sinks: touch any fish and the dive ends, and the line starts reeling up from wherever you are. On the way up, steer into fish to hook them, and keep clear of the jellies, which cut the line and take your last three. At the surface the haul is counted onto the deck. Every cast has a Haul Quota: meet it and you pick one of three run upgrades and cast again against a higher quota, miss it and the run is over. Your score is everything you haul across the run, in pts.
Hook the same species back to back and it builds a Species Chain, worth up to eight times as much, so the best runs weave toward the right school instead of grabbing everything. The line gets longer every cast, down through the sunlit shallows, the reef, the twilight zone and the abyss, where the light runs out and only your lure, the lanternfish and the anglers glow. Fill a fishdex of 18 species drawn in code, unlock six lures, work through the mission board, and fish the Daily Waters: the same ocean for everyone today, with a day streak. This is an early access build: the quotas, the fish and the scoring will be tuned from real runs.

How it’s built
- Pure HTML5 Canvas and vanilla JavaScript: no engine, no build step.
- Every cast gets a fresh column of fish from a seeded generator. Fish are simple agents: school leaders and followers, darters, drifters and pulsing jellies, with point-against-capsule collision and no physics library.
- Each species is drawn once in code to an offscreen canvas (body, tail, fins, a pattern and an eye) from one Lospec palette, and the deep zones use a half-resolution darkness layer with lights cut out of it.
- The quota curve was tuned with an autopilot that steers with a set perception error, from sharp to sloppy.
- Every sound is synthesized in the browser at runtime, the same way as the other Labs games.
